What Is the Best Type Cat Litter?
If you have cats, finding suitable cat litter is something you have to think about. While it might seem like an easy thing, there are so many types of litter available now that it can be confusing to know what to choose.
Different Type Of Cat Litter Available Out There
1. Clay Clumping : Usually this kind of cat litter is made up from bentonine (mixture of montmorillonite with several elements such as sodium or calcium). It is well known to be easy to clean up and most cats like this type of litter. Plus, it is cheap, affordable & not too expensive to be replace everyday. Unfortunately, it isn’t biodegradable, it is heavy and creates a lot of dust. Also, note that you may not wish to use clumping litter for kittens as this bentonite might be eaten by them.
2. Non-clumping Clay : These types of litter are made from clays other than bentonite. They are not as easy to clean and require more frequent and diligent cleaning because they don’t form into nice scoopable clumps. But it is much cheaper compared to the bentonite.
3. Silica Cat Litter : This type of cat litter usually made up from pure silica. They often control the odor better and last longer than a normal clay litter. However, they’re more expensive and they are extremely dangerous if a cat ingests too much of them when they’re cleaning their paws. So, it is highly not recommended for the kittens.
4. Corn, Wheat & Pine : Litters made from recycled corn, wheat, and pine are easily available. They are mostly little to no dust, and the best thing is that they’re biodegradable. They have a great clumping ability, able to mask bad odor from cat feces & long lasting usage but if the cat has a food allergy to any of these ingredients, it may develop a reaction when this pinewood litter is being used because they always ingest some while grooming.
5. Tofu : This type of cat litter is made of food-grade soy pulp that would otherwise end up in landfill or thrown away. It is one of the long lasting, easiest to clean, and odor-absorbent litters available. Totally natural & the only available option that is biodegradable and can be flushed down the toilet.
Conclusion
It's important to know which type of cat litter that suits with your cat. No matter what brand, each type of cat litter has its pros & cons. Experiment each one of them & find the best for your cats.
